What better way to bring in the 2014 New Year than by spending it photographing my cousins wedding in the Swarovski hotel and spa resort, Sparkling Hill, in Vernon BC (a destination wedding for James and I). If you’ve never been to Sparkling Hill Resort, you must go! After a long and snowy drive through the pass from Vancouver, and James and I feeling a bit congested, we joined our family in the resorts amazing spa filled with different pools and aromatic steam rooms and woke up the next day feeling like a million bucks! I love destination weddings, even while staying within BC, because it truly gives family and friends a chance to unwind and visit with one another. There’s always such a calm feeling the morning of the wedding and you can tell everyone attending is in great spirits as they feel like they are on vacation too.
Everything about Sarah and Dan’s wedding was so intimate and personal. While many guests spent the morning back at the spas, Sarah and Dan were preparing for their I Do’s in spacious rooms overlooking Lake Okanagan. 2014 is definitely Sarah and Dan’s year as they become Mr. and Mrs. Phillips and they await the arrival of their first baby due this coming month in April. James and I couldn’t be happier for them and we are so excited to welcome Dan to our family!
Piper, technically the first baby of the Phillip family, also had the honour of being the ring bearer. You could tell that he was very proud to be stand by his parents and…SQUIRREL!
I still get choked up looking through these photos of their ceremony. There was such a quite warmth about this venue with a blazing fire as a backdrop opposite the still, winter tundra and intimate family setting (having the wedding attendees spend the morning in the spas sent a calm and relaxing aura over the proceedings). Lots of tears were shared and laughter filled the room.
Family from overseas were able to witness the union as iPhones were stuck to the walls and family held iPads with the use of Skype. iCan’t get over how technology bridges these geographical boundaries and allows family and friends to share in such momentous occasions.
When Sarah asked James and I to photograph her wedding, I was so excited, not just to photograph my beautiful cousin and her handsome hubby to be, but also because I finally got the opportunity to shoot in the snow! The combination of a white wedding dress on a white backdrop is stunning, frozen fingers aside (and James decided shorts was the best attire for the outdoor shots, that crazy Prairie boy of mine)!
Sarah and Dan were gifted the sled from Sarah’s dad, because she used to sled on it when she was a baby and now they can share it with their new baby to be.
Can anyone say cascading floors of Swarovski crystals? AMAZING!
Congratulations Sarah and Dan on your gorgeous wedding! Thank you so much for having James and I photograph your special day. I can’t wait for everything your lives together will bring. We love you so much!
